Monday Messages- spiritual whirlwinds

The worst whirlwinds are the temptations of the adversary. Neil L. Andersen #LDSConf #MormonWomenStandAnother word on the whirlwinds because if we have felt them, we will be stronger for the ones that are yet to come.  If we have been able to avoid them, we need to prepare for them.  We can strengthen our faith by reading our scriptures, praying and keeping the commandments.  We should call upon the Lord for little things and show trust in Him.  Then, we will have confidence in Him when the BIG things come our way.  The whirlwinds are most definitely going to get worse.  One is Pornography.  Another is Pride.  Still another is "Political Correctness" on issues such as homosexuality, abortion, women holding the priesthood, sexual intimacy before marriage and adultery.  As was said also Saturday: Elder Nelson #ldsconf #quotes

Sunday Blessings-faith amidst the whirlwinds

Protect yourself from the whirlwinds of life...read the Book of Mormon - Neil L. Andersen readthescriptures.com #lds #ldsconf #scripturestudy #ElderAndersen

I am grateful for Elder Neil L. Anderson's talk in our LDS General Conference Saturday morning.  He talked about the whirlwinds of our day that are increasing and how we can overcome them.  Reading the Book of Mormon will help.  He mentioned my favorite scripture in the Book of Mormon.

Helaman 5:12
12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

I can say from my own experience that when troubles come, as they always do, they do not have power to drag me down if I rely on my faith in Jesus Christ.  I know that everything will turn out alright if I am doing all I can to be faithful to my covenants and promises to Him.  He loves me and will be with me until the storm has passed.  It may not pass any quicker, but with faith, I can conquer the fears.

Friday Favorites-Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

This has to be one of my favorite movies as a child.  Back in the days when we waited for certain movies to air once a year on television.  "The Sound of Music," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" were my personal favorites.  I also remember watching "The Poseidon Adventure" and "The Ten Commandments", "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World," "The Great Race" and any Disney movie.
But from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I remember being terrified of the Child Catcher.  He was pure evil.  My favorite part is the music box.  Here's a clip:

Thursday Tips & Tricks-Wooden spoon over pot

I don't know why this works, but it does.  Sometimes we don't have to understand the why to appreciate that it improves our lives.  (I still don't understand how the internet works, but I also can't believe we lived without it all those years.)

Wacky Wednesday-the internet

scarily true.

Not totally true for me.  I am not on the internet every free chance I get.  Nor do I feel like I'm never going to reach my life's goals.  But I did think it was funny.

Tuesday miTunes-Mormon Tabernacle Choir, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing"

My favorite line from this song is..."Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God.  He to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.  Prone to wander, Lord I feel it.  Prone to leave the God I love.  Here's my heart, oh take and seal it.  Seal it to thy courts above...."

It speaks to us all, because none of are perfect and have wondered away at times or are wandering now.  I love that Jesus seeks us and paid the price for our sins and all he wants in return is our desire to do good continually and have no more desires to do evil.  It is something to continually strive for.
